Undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Public Health
Public Health students have a strong desire to promote and protect health and have aspirations of making a difference in the communities they serve.
Appalachian State’s Public Health program is designed to train students to help populations and communities improve their health through behavior change, lead interventions and social action through community and coalition building, the promotion of environmental and systems change, and advocacy for the inclusion of health in all public policies. The American Public Health Association offers information about public health and potential careers in the field.
Undergraduate Minor in Public Health
The Public Health minor is designed to provide an introduction to the field of Public Health with courses that explore core public health concepts that can be applied to a variety of health-related disciplines. Students who are not majoring in Public Health can earn a minor in the field.
Background Check Policy
Beginning in fall 2020, the Beaver College of Health Sciences created a criminal background check policy that requires all graduate and undergraduate students, who as a part of their program of study have required or elective clinicals, internships, field placements, or practicums, to submit to and pass a criminal background check.
Certificate: Rural Public Health Preparedness & Response
The Rural Public Health Preparedness & Response Certificate empowers students to become leaders in addressing public health emergencies.
With natural disasters, pandemics, and other crises on the rise, this program delivers specialized, hands-on training in emergency preparedness, crisis communication, disaster response, and public health policy. Designed to meet growing workforce needs, the certificate combines core public health courses with interdisciplinary electives to prepare students for impactful roles in local health agencies and community resilience efforts. This certificate enhances students’ career readiness by building a pre-trained, agile workforce ready to serve where it's needed most.
