Three Concentrations Available
Students in the Kinesiology program select one of these three concentration options:
1. The Research concentration includes coursework and experiences to prepare students for future Ph.D. work.
2. The Clinical Exercise Physiology concentration includes coursework and experiences to prepare students for transition into a Ph.D. or Professional program, or for careers in cardiac rehabilitation and clinical research
3. The Strength and Conditioning concentration includes coursework and experiences to prepare students for careers in strength and conditioning, sports performance, or the private fitness industry.
General Admission Requirements
All applicants for admission to the Cratis D. Williams School of Graduate Studies must hold a baccalaureate degree from a college or university of recognized standing and must have an undergraduate background appropriate for the proposed graduate program. In addition, all applicants must submit a personal statement and three letters of recommendation.
Departmental Admission Requirements
Minimum requirements include:
- Baccalaureate degree (Kinesiology/Exercise Science Preferred);
- 3.0 GPA in the last earned degree, or
- 2.5 GPA in the last earned degree and official scores at the 25th percentile level from the GRE

Undergraduate coursework in the following: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, plus two additional science courses. For the Strength and Conditioning concentration, undergraduate coursework must also include Introduction to Athletic Training. These courses should be completed prior to formal admission into the program and registration in graduate courses with few exceptions. This list may not include prerequisites for all elective courses. Assessment of prerequisite requirements is made at the discretion of the graduate program director.
Application Procedures
All applications are now online through the Williams School of Graduate Studies. However, a complete application consists of the submission of the following materials:
A completed application with a non-refundable, non-deductible application processing fee (consult the application regarding fees and payment), and
- Three letters of recommendation
- Current resume
- Official transcripts of all previous academic work
- Personal statement outlining professional goals and how the Master of Science in Kinesiology will help to achieve those goals

Application Dates
The application is not sent to the graduate program director until all required documents are submitted, and it is the applicant's responsibility to monitor the application process.
Application deadline for Fall admission is April 1; however, faculty will begin early review of applications on February 1 for acceptance and GA positions.
Deadline for Spring admission is November 1, and admission is contingent upon space available as most students begin the program in the fall.
Additional Information
When applying to the program, it is encouraged to contact a Kinesiology faculty mentor after reviewing faculty profiles to identify someone whom you might be interested in working with (i.e., similar research interests) as part of your potential graduate assistant responsibilities.
The Beaver College of Health Sciences requires all graduate and undergraduate students who have required or elective clinicals, internships, field placements, or practicums, to submit to a criminal background check.
