Honors in Kinesiology

Honors in Kinesiology

The Kinesiology program offers a Departmental Honors option to facilitate academic challenges and growth opportunities for exceptionally motivated undergraduate students. The Departmental Honors program is intended for students with distinguished academic records and a strong desire to conduct research in the field.

Students must complete 9 hours of honors credits including 3 hours of senior honors thesis (ES 4510) under the guidance of a faculty member who serves as the thesis supervisor. The remaining 6 hours of honors credits can be attained by negotiating an honors contract in exercise science courses at the 3000 level and above. Students wishing to take a course under an honors contract should contact the Kinesiology Honors Program Director in consultation with the class instructor to request the contract and arrange the course requirements. Courses taken for honors credit can be applied toward the undergraduate degree in Kinesiology.

Admission

For admission into the Departmental Honors program, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.45 in all coursework. Enrollment, generally through invitation, requires an application, with a final acceptance decision made by the Kinesiology Honors Program Director. To graduate with honors, a student must complete the above honors sequence with a minimum grade of B in courses taken for honors credit and a cumulative GPA of 3.45 in all coursework at the time of graduation. This includes the completion and defense of the senior honors thesis project.
